In dance the teacher is the difference between success and failure, between learning properly or not at all. We welcome questions about our credentials. Joe and Ginnie Mazzello have worked on Broadway, Summer Stock, ABC, NBC and CBS-TV as dancers, Choreographers, and behind the scenes. We've trained and worked with New York's finest teachers and choreographers including the New York City Ballet and Michael Bennett. Our students have gone on to work on Broadway, Touring Companies, movies, TV and behind the scenes at HBO, City Center, and Talent Agencies. They have also received scholarships at major universities and have taught at major universities like Washinton University and University of Missouri. So when it comes to the performing arts the choice is simple: JG Dance!
The Teachers
Ginnie and Joe Kristen Lindsey
Joe Mazzello -- Joe had extensive professional experience in theater and television before opening JG Dance wit his wife, Ginnie. Joe appeared on Broadway, at Carnegie Hall and on several television shows as a dancer/singer/actor. He was one of Michael Bennett's (Chorus Line) chorus dancers in the Broadway Show, "Henry Sweet Henry. He is a graduate of Fordham University with a concentration in Drama and Philosophy. While at Fordham, Joe directed several one act plays at the theater at Lincoln Center and has performed in several seasons of summer stock. Joe is a natural motivator and draws personality out of all his students.
Ginnie Mazzello -- Before opening JG Dance, Ginnie made several television appearances and performed in several shows off-broadway as an actress/singer/dancer. She also worked at all three television networks ABC, NBC and CBS in various executive positions and was involved in choreographing children in television commercials. Early in her dance career, she received a scholarship to train with the American School of Ballet. She continues to dance in NYC concentrating on musical theater, choreographing "Roar of the Greasepaint" at the MMC Therter in NYC and taking on the part of Lucky in the production of "Waiting for Godot". Just before moving back to Hyde Park, Ginnie was choreographer for the pre-college summer intensive at Marymount Manhattan College, NYC. Ginnie's passion for dance is quite obvious to her students. Her care for all her students and her attention to detail enables each of them to reach their full potential.
The Mazzello's have three children (Mary, Joseph, John). Joe and Ginnie managed a Show business career for each of them. In total their children have appeared in over 45 television commercials, over 20 feature films, over 10 TV shows, and appeared on Broadway. After living in NYC and Los Angeles, Joe and Ginnie returned to Dutchess County and opened JG Dance in Hyde Park.
Kristen Way -- Kristen is a graduate of Marist College with a BA in Communications, TV, Radio and Film. Kristen studied dance with Joe and Ginnie starting at age 4. Kristen started teaching at JG in 2001, teaching part-time at first and now is a fixture at the studio. She teaches ages 3 on up. It takes a special person to work effectively with young, young dancers. Kristen is one of those special people. Her preschool and kindergarten classes are energetic, instructive and encouraging. She also introduces terrific choreography to her older students. Kristen also was an educator in the Arlington School District for over eight years. Outside of JG Dance she has been able to share her experiences, talent and love of dance with many people throughout Dutchess County. She has choreographed for many theater companies in the area and for elementary, middle shool and high school productions.
Lindsey Bessman -- Lindsey Bessman grew up dancing at JG Dance. In 2011she graduated Cum Laude from SUNY Buffalo State with a B.A in Arts and Letters Dance. She was a member of the Buffalo State Dance Company and had many opportunities performing at community events throughout Western NY. She was the recipient of The Buffalo State Outstanding Dancer Award and The Arts and Letters Academic Achievement Award. In 2011 Lindsey joined Americorps where she served the Buffalo community teaching children dance and all forms of art. Lindsey was the assistant director of The Pleien Dance Company, a youth creative dance company in WNY and danced with many Modern Dance Companies in the area. She has a strong knowledge of the Cunningham Dance Technique from studying and performing with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company in New York. Lindsey currently dances with SolesBare Dance Collective where she gets to perform and create powerful movement with a meaning. She continues studying dance in New York City and is a member of NDEO (National Dance Education Organization) and is committed to giving children the best dance education she can. Lindsey is very excited to be back home at JG!
